Food diary · no account · works offline

Log a meal before it gets cold.

Most food diaries die because logging takes longer than eating. Taplog gets an entry done in a couple of taps: your recent foods sit one tap away, search finds foods in a few keystrokes, and the day grid tells you at a glance whether you are on track.

No sign-up. The sample day resets on reload; start your own diary whenever you want.

    The honest diagnosis

Tracking fails in week two, not because you are lazy

The pattern is well known to anyone who has tried: motivation carries you through four or five meticulous days. Then a busy Tuesday arrives, dinner is whatever was in the fridge, and opening the tracker feels like homework. One skipped day becomes three, and by Sunday the streak is broken and the app is in a folder.

The problem is rarely willingness. It is friction. Every extra screen between "I just ate this" and "it's logged" is a place where the habit breaks. Researchers who study habit formation keep arriving at the same conclusion: behaviors survive when the cost of doing them approaches zero, and they die when each repetition demands a decision.

So Taplog attacks seconds, not willpower:

    • Recent foods become one-tap chips. The oats you log every morning never need searching again. Tap the chip, done. Repeat foods take under three interactions.
    • Search forgives typing. Two or three letters usually suffice; the matcher ignores diacritics and finds "gr yrt" when you mean Greek yogurt.
    • The day view answers first, edits second. A progress ring shows where you stand against your goal before you log anything, so checking in costs a glance, not a session.

A rough entry made in ten seconds today is worth more than a precise entry you never get around to tomorrow. That trade, speed over laboratory precision, is the whole product.

    Private by architecture

Your diary never leaves your device

Taplog has no user accounts and no backend that stores food entries. Everything you log lives in your browser's own storage on your own phone or computer. There are no cookies, no analytics scripts, no third-party trackers on these pages.

In fact, the only time Taplog ever talks to a server is the moment you activate a Pro license key, and even that is a single request to verify the key with Polar, our payment provider. Delete your browser data and your diary is gone, which is exactly how it should be for something this personal. You can read the privacy policy; it is short because there is little to collect.

    Questions

    Frequently asked

    Is there a barcode scanner?

No, deliberately. Scanning sounds fast but in practice it means fetching your phone, finding the code, waiting for the lookup, then fixing the wrong portion anyway. Typing two letters and tapping a recent food is usually quicker, and it works offline.

    Where is my data stored?

On your device, in your browser's IndexedDB storage. There are no accounts, no cookies, no analytics and no server. If you clear your browser data, your diary goes with it, so export a CSV now and then if it matters to you.

I track in MyFitnessPal today. Can I switch?

Yes. Export your diary as CSV from MyFitnessPal on their website, then import the file here on the landing page demo or in your diary. Dates, meals, calories and macros are mapped automatically where the columns exist.

Can I cancel Taplog Pro anytime?

Yes. Pro is a normal $4/month subscription through our payment provider. Cancel whenever you like; everything you logged stays yours and readable in the free plan.

    Does Taplog work offline?

Yes. Once the page has loaded once, the whole app runs from your device: food database, logging, history. No connection required until you activate a Pro license.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Taplog is a web app, so it runs in any current browser on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux. Install it to your home screen for an app-like experience.

Do I have to weigh everything?

No. Grams help accuracy, but every food has sensible presets like one medium banana or one slice of bread, and you can edit portions later. A rough entry you actually make beats a perfect one you skip.

What do I get for $4 a month?

Full history beyond 30 days, insights with 7-day and 30-day calorie charts, macro averages, streak tracking, and CSV export of your entire diary. Logging itself is free forever.
